Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez defeated Callum Smith on points in Texas
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez says he is still open to the third fight with Gennadiy Golovkin after defeating Callum Smith to unite the world titles at preseason pressure.
The four-time world champion further enhanced his reputation as a pound-for-pound star by finishing a unanimous decision win over Smith with leading scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111 in Texas .
Golovkin had returned with the seventh stoppage of Kamil Szeremeta on Friday night and Canelo insists he will not shy away from a trilogy fight, after battling a draw and then the case beat his Kazakh rival on points in their previous two blows.

“I’m not running from anyone. I just showed I was fighting against the best ones,” Canelo said. DAZN.
“Of course, if he’s going to take that fight, I’ll take it. But I’ve shown the world that I’m fighting against the best.”
Canelo claimed the WBA ‘super’ title from Smith and WBC’s empty belt, then expressed his desire for a unification clash against British WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders and American IBF title holder Caleb Plant.

“I’m the best person in the world,” Canelo said. “In the first round, I tried what it takes, the skills, but you can see that I show what I am.
“I feel great at 168 (lbs). I don’t want to fight with the scale. After 13 months, we’ll see what I can do.
“One of the biggest nights, and I’m going for more.
“Come on, I want all the belts. It doesn’t matter who it is.”
Canelo made a late punitive attack on the Liverpudlian
Smith suffered the first loss on his 28-fight career and added that he could now move up in weight.
“I’m spoiled, I never wanted to lose. I came here to win,” Smith said DAZN. “That was not my night.
“A few small things. It was good tonight, fair play to him. I may have gotten over the weight. I don’t feel as dominant at 168 ‘as I used to, but listen , no excuses, very good.
“He’s a great fighter, a pound-for-pound star, but I think it could be a better day for me tonight. I played, he did, he’s the best guy today.
Smith was ‘devastated’ after suffering his first career loss
“He’s just smart, just smart. He closes ground without throwing. He sets little traps and keeps you thinking constantly and before you know it, he’s shut the ground.
“I might let him close the ground a couple of times, a little too easily, but he’s a good fighter. I have to give him credit but I’m a little pessimistic.”
