Volunteer hit back with stray tee fired by world No 1 Dustin Johnson in second round of Saudi International

Dustin Johnson gave a competitive surprise to a competing volunteer in the second round of Saudi International.

The No. 1 world made a big jump up the board at a star-studded European Tour event, taking out five of its first 14 holes on Friday afternoon before the play was postponed due to a dimming light at Golf Club and the Royal Greens.

Johnson enters the weekend just two strokes behind Stephen Gallacher and clubhouse director Ryan Fox, although he has a volunteer to thank for his help with holding the card without his softness.

Johnson two off Saudi leadership

Report and ambitions from the second round of Saudi International.

The 35-footer Masters champion shook at second and added more birdies at fourth and seventh to reach the turnaround in 32, before pulling his driver at the tenth right-back rectangular pass and towards the desert.

Johnson’s tee bullet would have gone farther off the line if it hadn’t been for a careless volunteer, who was thrown to the floor after the ball hit the back.
