Samsung has announced theSamsung SSD 980, The company’s first NVMe SSD drive to come without built-in DRAM memory, unlike its other SSD series, which is designed to be an inexpensive solution for the home market starting at $ 50 for a capacity of 250GB, and offers data transfer speeds of up to 3500MB / s.

Samsung’s family of SSD 980 drives is intended to be the company’s new “low market” solution, due to the fact that it is a DRAMless SSD drive, which lowers its price when it is designed to replace the SS70 970 EVO drives. This is a brand new SSD drive family for Samsung, and despite the name being similar to the SSD 980 Pro it is a completely different SSD drive, which comes with no extension at all, unlike the Pro, EVO or QVO drives, including the latest SSD 870 QVO.

While the fact that it is a built-in cache-free SSD was supposed to significantly impair the drive’s performance, Samsung uses HBM (Host Memory Buffer) technology to connect the Pablo controller, which is directly on the drive, to the system memory, In order to compensate for the lack of built-in DRAM memory.

Samsung’s new SSD is intended to be a solution for the low-end market, but that does not mean that it is an “inferior” SSD, thanks to the various technologies that Samsung has incorporated in the drive to allow it to perform high despite its lack of DRAM memory. A good solution for users looking for a low-budget NVMe SSD drive.
