Safari: A pair of tigers who fell in love moved in together

From the moment he learned of the director of the safari’s zoological collection in Ramat Gan, Dr. Gilad Goldstein, who needed to help the tiger Chin Qin who lives in England and find her a home, he immediately agreed to shoot them and transfer her to the safari. The Indonesian, is a gold ring and is named after the first tiger that was hunted in a reserve in Indonesia and managed to escape from a foot trap in tragic circumstances.

Qin Qin also went through a difficult life and it was clear that she would come to the safari as a tiger with a rather complex life, and this has consequences. The sex coordinator of the Sumatran tigers in Europe, said she could not live with a male in the same yard, and therefore had no intention of having one of their sons. However, the days passed and slowly the bond grew stronger.

Shelly Eldad, director of the predators department, said: “Those who finally chose to unite were actually them, the tigers themselves. In the last year we noticed the increased interest between the two, at some point we could not ignore it and after careful thought and planning, under the care of all professional staff present in the area. “Our tigers have been reunited and since then … an idyll.” These days, Eldad said that the two are constantly playing and cuddling, and that Qin Qin is even more relaxed and also willing to come to a training session designed to strengthen the bond and trust between the animals and the caregivers. Therefore, when needed, she will also be able to provide them with medical care in a simple procedure that does not involve sedation and anesthesia.

The Sumatran tigers are considered to be the most extinct species of which only about 500 remain in the wild, Qin Qin and Rimba, are without a doubt great ambassadors of this beautiful species. Zoos around the world are making great efforts to tell their story and expand their understanding of the causes of the difficult situation in which they find themselves in the wild. The main reason is hunting out of a desire to strip their fur and use other body parts, used in folk medicine.

In some cultures, hunting a tiger is considered a sport or a demonstration of courage. The hunt has unfortunately continued to this day and tiger parts are being sold in the black markets for a lot of money. Different body parts of the tiger are used to make various and weird medicines from acne medicine to toothache medicine. The tigers also suffer from the destruction of their habitats and from the deforestation of the forests in which they live to smaller and smaller areas. The remaining areas are so small that they do not have enough space for territory and there is not enough food to allow them to be hunted.
