Rwanda detects coronavirus changes UK, South Africa

KIGALI, Rwanda

Rwanda has first detected cases of coronavirus changes in the UK and South Africa, the health minister announced.

In a televised speech, Daniel Ngamije said Sunday that the cases were discovered among international visitors who recently entered the East African country.

Two cases were confirmed by the UK difference, while another 10 tested positive for South African snoring, he said.

“So far there is no evidence that the variables are spreading in the local community … the passengers are isolated to keep out the spread.”

The minister said health officials were still monitoring the situation, and would contact passengers who were diagnosed with the disease.

All viruses naturally move over time, and coronavirus is an exception. Some variations appear to be more contagious, and there are concerns about the effectiveness of the currently available vaccines.

In addition to the RA or Kent version (B.1.1.7) and the South African variant (B.1.351), there is the Brasil version (P.1).

Rwanda has so far recorded 20,828 COVID-19 cases including 290 related deaths and 19,180 recurrences. Up to 334,538 people have been vaccinated against the disease.
