Russia launches Arktika-M’s first weather satellite – Prensa Latina

The launch of the spacecraft, designed to monitor climate and environmental conditions in the North Polar zones, is the third of 29 planned for 2021.

Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin said on his Telegram account that the satellite was using solar antennas and other elements and that the device already has communication and control.

Roscosmos said that the minimum representation of the Arktika-M hydrometeorological space system should consist of two satellites, which will be replaced alternately.

The devices will look around the clock around the Earth’s surface and Arctic oceans, as well as stable and reliable communication.

The second satellite of the Arktika-M series is expected to launch for 2023, and three more devices will be followed in 2024 and 2025, Sputnik news agency reported.
