Detailing the frozen experience at the time, Rupert admitted that they did not get on as he told Piers: ‘No, we did not. Well, first, I went to look at it. He was playing my part in the play and I fell in love with him.

‘Well, I just got pressed. I got pregnant with it and we were hanging out together all the time. And then I realized we were completely different people. ‘

Going on to discuss Rupert and Colin’s 20-year feud, Piers began: ‘He said on the Other Country set, you were a full b ***** d. ‘

At the time, back when they appeared together in the film, he named Colin ‘a guitar-playing socialist who was going to donate the first half a million to charity’.

Rupert admitted that he was, and in response to Piers asking if he was a bully, he went on: ‘Yes, in a very strange way I managed to share and lobby. ‘

Explaining why, he went on: ‘Because I was, I was hopeless and power went down and I decided he was tired.

‘And that was it. And I tried to convince everyone else that it was. And it was bad. ‘

Rupert and Colin went badly together in interviews for years, but compromised – appropriately – on the 2002 set of The Importance Of Being Earnest.

They then appeared in the films St Trinian, affirming friendships, and have since appeared in the film Rupert The Happy Prince together.

Piers asked if Rupert, since becoming friends again, had told Colin about his crush, and the star of My Best Friend ‘s Wedding said:’ Yes, of course. ‘

Piers Morgan’s Life Stories will be heard tonight at 9pm on ITV, to catch up on the series, visit the ITV Hub.
