One of Hong Kong’s biggest social events, the Rugby Sevens, is expected to return this year amid growing expectations that life will return to normal in the coming months.

The event, which is part of the HSBC Rugby World Series, is scheduled to take place in Hong Kong on November 5-7, the organizer said in a reported Wednesday. Related events are also being planned in Paris, Singapore, Dubai and Cape Town, he said. Discussions are taking place as to whether they should hold games in London and Vancouver.

The Hong Kong Sevens would mark the first major sporting event to return to the city since the outbreak of the pandemic. The tournament, originally scheduled for April, was postponed by the organizer at the end of last year as the city was battling a rise in Covid-19 cases but infections have fallen recently to the extent that the government started relax some social distance rules.

Last year, there was the competition it was postponed for the first time since its inception in 1976 due to concerns about persistent coronavirus outbreaks.
