Valentine’s Day is just around the corner – and if you want to keep women interested in Tinder, a funny chat line is the way to go, scientists have revealed.
U.S. researchers tested various online chat lines on 237 young, heterosexual adults – finding that the humor of the opening gambit outweighed the recommendations.
In fact, they found that men who used a humorous introduction were seen as more attractive to women, who regarded them as more intelligent, kind, and trustworthy.
Even though some of the lines were a bit cheesy, they found that women still suited them better than unique greetings, like ‘Hi, how are you? ‘
Men, by contrast, were found to largely base their assessments on prospective dates on how attractive they found the woman’s image.
The team noted that, thanks to COVID-19 pan-closure closing bars and clubs around the world, singles have complied with apps like Tinder for their date needs.

In the study, each participant looked at a Tinder image for a member of the opposite sex before they found one of a dozen construction lines invented by the researchers – which was different from those that were funny to those that were ‘praise.
Each volunteer then went on to evaluate the advanced features they saw based on the user’s image and message – and whether they would like to date that person.
Positive attributes examined in the study included intelligence, kindness, physical attractiveness and trust.
Among the chat series rated by women was ‘Do you have raisins? No? What about a date? ‘,’ Are you from Tennessee? Since you are the only ten I see ‘,’ You have a very nice smile ‘and’ Hey! What’s up?’
The team found that, out of four, with the humorous Tennessee line that men were considered more attractive by the women in the study.
In addition, women preferred opening messages that were humorous or in praise of the sexual reception.
When someone tries to start a conversation, their opening remarks will be a demonstration of their character, said paper author and communications researcher Minhao Dai of Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
It enables the sender, he said, ‘features that may be of interest to the intended recipient. ‘
A construction line is one of the usual ways on which one can express the intention of conversing and pursuing a romantic courtship.
People seeking romantic relationships and committed romantic partners use humor to gain or enhance their relationships.
‘Humor stimulates positive emotions in two ways – firstly through greater perceived belief, secondly to reduce psychological reaction.’

‘Build lines are the first thing to hear when starting an online conversation, and date apps like Tinder can change the impact of build lines,’ the researchers wrote.
Going online, by all means, is a complex communication process that showcases the unique ecology.
We hope that the current findings will add to the experience […] and shedding more light on a critical communications perspective in online dating – building lines. ‘
