The All-Star game is just around the corner, but this season, contrary to what we are used to, it will be held in a slightly different format. As part of the change imposed on the organizers following the Corona days, the “Rising Stars” game for which Danny Abdia was chosen will not take place. And yet, the very election of the Israeli and Roy Hachimura sent Washington journalists to analyze the future of the Wizards.
“I don’t think we needed approval, but the invitation of Danny Abdia and Roy Hachimura to the rising stars ‘game proves that the Wizards’ scouting department has caught two good players on the net,” Ben Mahitch analyzed in the “Locked On Wizards” podcast. “There were people who were skeptical about choosing Abdia, as in the case of Hachimura, but they both have the right talent for the NBA. The league is going in the direction of tall players who can hold the ball and throw from the outside, players and restylists.”
“It’s exciting for the Wizards,” Mahitch continued, “it could have been nice to see them play together for free, with no shot limit. Those games are fun, but unfortunately we won’t get to see it. And yet, it’s proof that Washington’s trend is to pick European players to stay at the club. “For many years she is right. No matter what happens this season, Roy and Danny will probably stay for many years to come. They have a work ethic and a natural talent that can someday turn them from rising stars to all-stars.”
Podcast host Anthony Citadino added: “I agree, they are two of the most talented Europeans in the league. As for Danny, he is among the most talented Rockies in the league when he gets a major role. He started in the top five, but now his use goes up and down. He gets 20-30 minutes in one evening “And less than 10 minutes the night after.”
Asked if he could be part of the season’s Rockies quintet, Mahich replied: “Other than Tyris Halberton and Amalou Ball, I’m still trying to figure out this draft cycle. These kids were not given a chance to prepare in advance because there was no training camp. In response to a question, Danny could come “For the third five or not to be included at this stage – but if he gets more minutes and takes the shots we know he’s hitting, I think he’s going to crack that ceiling. Right now, I don’t think he’s there.”
“I definitely think he has the talent to get there, he just needs the minutes,” Citadino added, “ultimately it’s in the hands of Scott Brooks, if he gives him the opportunity he deserves – then of course he can be selected for one of the fives.”
