The umbrella organization of employers in Israel, the presidency of employers and businesses (the Manufacturers ‘Association, the Association of Chambers of Commerce and the Israel Farmers’ Association) today filed a lawsuit against the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Knesset Finance Committee, demanding that they return NIS 1 billion to employers. % For salary due to work on the Sabbath) and vacation days for employees on the upcoming election day.
According to the employers, there is no justification for them to continue to fund the fifth election day, which is expected to take place on March 23, after they have already paid NIS 6 billion for four elections in two years (including the local elections) – NIS 1.5 billion for each election. If the employers are forced to pay for the extra election day, they will be forced to finance a total of NIS 7 billion (!) Out of their own pockets over the five sabbaticals in a period of only two and a half years. This is despite the severe economic crisis that all businesses in Israel are suffering from.

The High Court, filed by Adv. Gideon Fischer, Adv. Eitan Berkowitz and Dr. Matan Gutman, states that if employers are required to pay on Election Day 5, “for the ‘public product’ of exercising the democratic right to vote, they will pay “Businesses pocket billions of shekels! This enormous cost is borne by all employers and businesses in Israel, including tens of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses that are in a constant war for survival, another unbearable burden that is expected to deepen human harm in the entire private sector.”
Chairman of the Presidency of Employers and Businesses and President of the Manufacturers Association, Dr. Ron TomerHe said: “When employers are in the midst of the economic storm and the Koran is at its peak, here in Israel they bear the burden of the democratic celebration more than any other country in the world. For the fifth time in two years and at the height of the worst economic crisis. “We can not sit on the sidelines and continue to absorb and be harmed, so we will do everything we can to change the situation. The state should bear the cost of the Sabbath and allow businesses to concentrate on surviving and stimulating the economy.”
President of the Association of Chambers of Commerce, Attorney Uriel Lin He added: “Employers have already contributed their share to the integrity of democracy in four elections in two and a half years, including local elections. We are now ahead of a fifth election and we have no assurance that there will be no fifth and sixth election. The easy solution the state has found is, as usual, If the state thinks that the fifth election day requires a day off, rather, it will bear its financing costs. It is highly doubtful whether it is even justified to grant a day off, since Election Day has long since ceased to be a holiday. A legislator who believes that an election day should be A day off from work should self-fund its generous approach. It’s time to put an end to promiscuity and distorted thinking that one can always burden more and more costs on the business sector. This is a basic lack of understanding of the reality in which the business sector struggles to survive “.
