League of Legends LEC 2021: Day 1
Day one of LES 2021 marked five matches with ten European Legends League teams in action. The games on Day One were:
- G2 Esports vs. MAD Lions – G2 Esports successfully appeared in a 32-minute game of League of Legends

- Team energy vs. Schalke 04 – Schalke won this 48-minute marathon.
- Gaming Misfits vs. Fnatic – Misfits Gaming won the final game of the day in a 26-minute program of League of Legends.
The first game of the day between G2 and MAD was close. MAD Lions looked good as they found a few deals, and took over goals in the early stages of the game.
However, once G2 made it out of the laning stage, the game began to take a terrible turn. G2 Esports won their first win of the tournament beating MAD in the 32nd minute. Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen, G2’s top Danish boss, was MVP of the opening game.
The second match between SK Gaming and Astralis saw an end-to-end demonstration of strategic play. SK Gaming support player Erik “Treatz” Wessen was the star of the game with his brilliant Thresh-display.
Astralis fought hard until the end, but it was SK Gaming who made the final laugh.
After a disappointing run at the 2020 League of Legends World Championship, Rogue won their 2021 LEC Split Spring by getting a clean hold of Excel on the start day of the season.
Excel climbed an unexpected lineup, including Ivern in the top tier and Udyr in the jungle. While Udyr has previously been selected as a jungler, this was the first time Ivern was seen as a top player in a competitive game. Rookie Felix “Kryze” Hellström faced a difficult challenge.
XL finally fell behind in the early game and never got the upper hand. Rogue executed better rotations in the game, which allowed them to get more turrets, blades, and a gold minion. They executed some clean fights around neutral goals throughout the game, and Rogue comfortably won the game in the 31st minute. Swedish midfielder Emil “Larssen” Larsson has been selected as the MVP.
Schalke 04 won the fourth game of the day against Spinning after a 48-minute League of Legends marathon. The Germans won for the first time since LEC began
Slovenianian laner Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík was the MVP of the game after his brilliant solo play with his Aphelios, getting five enemy slides.
The final game of the day between Misfits Gaming and Fnatic saw a 35-kill explosive connection League of Legends. The match was close from the first minute. However, it was Misfits ’modern roster that came to fruition after 26 minutes.
It didn’t take long for the two teams to start fighting. By 10 minutes, there were already 11 kills across the board, with just Ocean Drake as the only goal taken in that time.
Both lines jumped into fights when they could, and as the game progressed, Misfits turned out to be a success in the reefs. Vatheo’s midfielder was selected as League of Legends MVP after an elegant killing rampage by Zoe.
