Mira Rajput Kapoor is all about wellness these days. The mother of two who was dragged up at home with her children Misha and Zain Kapoor and her husband Shahid Kapoor have taken the time to look after her skin and put health on her first in all things.
The diva just shared the diet changes she made on all of their diets this winter, mental health habits introduced by her mother that she swears more and more!

What steps are you taking to keep your children healthy this winter?

Health is Wealth – I believe in that. Good health allows you to do everything better. Just from the time my kids were little, I gave them things like amla juice and haldi doodh regularly and we started all this when they were very young. So my advice to all moms would include natural remedies you may have and those our moms have taught us. Also adjust your meal plans according to the season which is always healthy and fresh, giving you and your children the proper nutrition you need to fight off a common illness during a particular season.

What do your mother / grandmother put down to keep you and your family healthy through the winters?

It’s always good to go back to your roots and follow those traditional home remedies that have gone through generations. I love them and even today disrupt the teachings of my mother and mother-in-law in our way of life especially during winters when health needs to double the care. One such nuska uses steam inhalation with Vicks Vaporub. Even if we have a slight cough and cold symptoms, mama advises us to mix 1-2 teaspoons of Vicks Vaporub in hot water and steam with natural ingredients. This traditional method relieves my cold and cough symptoms.
Along with this, I also introduce the traditional practice of drinking Haldi doodh warm before bed. Warm milk before the end of the day always helps our body to relax and sleep peacefully. The condiment also has antiviral and antibacterial properties that boost immunity, a step needed to regulate respiratory health in winters.
Another thing you see I include black tea and I recently discovered lopchu tea – a variant form of Darjeeling, the hot brew is said to be very beneficial to health as they are also loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that also help to restore immunity.

Are there any special foods / ingredients that you have been adding to your diet since the temperature has dropped?

The greens and seasonal fruits that are available on the market are fresh and come with the nutrients needed to fight off winter diseases. Figs and groundnuts are my favorite this season when it comes to fruit and in winter vegetables, I like methi, spinach and root vegetables. The change in diet has always helped to boost immunity and I also prepare it in ways that my children will enjoy. Along with this my favorite kitchen ingredient is Haldi and Ginger, they come with natural moisturizing properties that work wonders in boosting your immunity. While haldi is known as a multifunctional ingredient and has been known for its immune building properties for centuries, the thermogenic properties of ginger warm your body.

Winter ice cream: are they allowed in your home? If not, what do you put in place to prevent your children’s sweet treats?
Winter comes with festivals and some fun days, so I don’t completely restrict them from getting ice cream and let them get into the same thing again. But other than ice cream, I soak their sweet teeth in a homemade gajar ka halwa or hot chocolate or even a homemade cake but I prefer to do what I can at home and sometimes even make it an activity for the children. I also believe that indulgence is good but with a touch of healthy ingredients, like adding a pinch of cinnamon in our hot chocolate and replacing it with sugar. Small change can go a long way!
