E.plagued by mild restrictions against coronavirus and mild weather, Italians filled streets and squares in major cities over the weekend, raising concerns about a possible new spike in diseases, Giada zampano reports.
Pictures of crowded piazzas and popular sites in Milan, Venice, Rome and Naples prompted authorities to promise to go down at places where people were not failing social distance.
Most of Italy this weekend was subjected to so-called “yellow zone” rules – the softest under Italy’s three-tier system of restrictions, which allows people to eat in houses- food outside. Evening curfew, however, will still be between 10pm and 5am across the country.
Italy has been fighting hard to contain the second wave of Covid ‘s diseases, after suffering severely in the first wave in the spring of 2020.
After crowds descended on popular bars, restaurants and shopping areas over the weekend, health minister Roberto Speranza warned citizens against the high risk of a new outbreak.
“We have to be very careful across the country. We cannot waste the progress that has been made in the last few weeks, which is the result of the sacrifices that lie ahead, ”said Mr Speranza.
“Yellow zones do not mean that the threat is over. The virus is circulating and the risk, also due to the new variables, is still high,” he said.
