Reopening Israel’s borders is foolish and reckless

The Israeli government has been very foolish in deciding to let thousands of people into the country every day. There is no other way to describe it.

All forms of coronavirus mutations enter Israel and spread throughout the population, jeopardizing the entire vaccination effort. Those of us who are already concerned about the British and South African coronavirus variants that have already captured Israelis will remember when new and far more powerful strains emerge.

Even the forthcoming elections and the desire to please the foundations of the electorate cannot explain this nonsense by Israeli ministers.

Not only will thousands enter the country with no way to ensure their entry into quarantine, the ministers decided to make quarantine useless to anyone who has passed COVID- 19 or received the vaccine – despite the risk of introducing new, more deadly strains of the virus.

Israel has only just begun to emerge from a third lockout caused by extremely high morbidity and the pressure on hospitals ’ability to treat COVID patients. The opening of the country to new forms of the disease could come back in the same medical emergency.

Just a few days ago, the Ministry of Health announced that cases of the powerful New York variety had been discovered in Israel. In the Arab region, hundreds of cases of COVID caused by the South African variant have already been confirmed.

While CDC President Rochelle Walensky warned Americans this week about the dangers of the new variables, Israel decided to throw a warning to the wind and open the doors.

Health officials fear Israel will see the worst of situations when business restrictions are lifted on Sunday as children of all ages return to school.

There will be thousands if not tens of thousands of victims infected with the rapidly spreading virus over several weeks, which can leave hospitals with patients with severe lung disease.

If the government aims to achieve herd protection, good luck to them and good luck to all Israelis.
