“Release Me”: Durant’s Bizarre Night

Beginning of an article

The NBA’s ability to tackle last season’s corona crisis has impressed us all, but this season, it seems, is a little harder to contain. Tonight (Friday-Saturday), it was expressed in a particularly bizarre event in the Brooklyn Nets ’loss game to the Toronto Raptors.

Shortly before the jump-ball, there was a report that Kevin Durant would not be available to Steve Nash since he was in contact with a man diagnosed as borderline positive for Corona right next to the opening whistle. But after an examination, it turned out that the rules of the league say that if it is not clear whether the person is positive or not – a player is allowed to participate. And so, Durant came off the bench, for the first time in his career, just before the end of the first quarter.

Think this language ends? Think again. During the game, the same man received a positive response to Virus and Durant, during the third quarter, finished the game out of an “abundance of caution,” according to the league statement. Durant, it should be noted, has been diagnosed as negative for the virus three times over the past 24 hours – but he has apparently not played in Philly.

Durant himself, as expected, did not make the decision with a smile. When he learned he could no longer play, he shook his head in disappointment – and as he passed the players’ tunnel on the way to the locker room, he threw a bottle of water in frustration. Durant later went on to protest, tweeting “Release me,” and later even tagged the league’s account and tweeted: “Your fans are not dumb, you can’t fool them with your PR tactics.”

Durantesim the game with only 8 points in 19 minutes on the floor, while alongside that he contributed 6 rebounds and 5 assists. In fact, it was the second time in ten seasons that Durant failed to reach double digits and the 166-game streak in which he did – was interrupted.
