Realme 7 5G – 5G device for less than 1500 NIS

Reali is launching a new device at a hectic pace and one of the latest of which is the Realme 7 5G, which joins a series that already includes the 7i, 7 and Realme 7 Pro, which we also recently reviewed in Gadgeti. The 5G model in the series is offered at a price similar to that of the Pro model, but it differs from it in some parts in the technical specifications, offering a processor from Media-Tech instead of Qualcomm, a screen that supports a high refresh rate of 120 Hz, but settles for an LCD display instead of AMOLED. Long battery life and incorporates support for 5G networks.

realme 7 5G: design, screen and performance

With the pace of device launches so frequent, it’s hard to pinpoint significant changes between models, but Brilmi does take care to change things between the Realme 7 Pro model and the new 7 version, which adds support for 5G networks.

The screen of the current model is slightly larger, 6.5 inches compared to 6.4 inches of the Pro model, when the screen type is also different, and the company returns to using the LCD display at a high refresh rate that we saw in the Realme 6 Pro device, although this time it is even higher refresh rate , Which reaches up to 120 Hz.

The dimensions are also larger compared to the Pro model, especially on the weight side, which rises from 182 grams to 195 grams, and together with the slightly larger dimensions of the 5G model, it becomes less comfortable to hold compared to the Pro model.

The display resolution is Full HD + at 1080 × 2400 pixels, but the difference is noticeable compared to the AMOLED display of the Pro model, which offers richer colors and better contrast. The maximum brightness in the 5G model is good, but I came across quite a few cases where activating the automatic lighting regulation does not adjust itself properly to the lighting in the room, so sometimes the screen is too dark in a bright room and sometimes too bright in a dark room. You can of course simply turn off the auto-lighting adjustment function via the removable messaging menu.

The performance part of the Realme 7 5T is supported by 8GB of RAM (in the model tested) and Media-Tech’s new Dimensity 800U chipset is the one that also integrates the 5G modem that allows support for the new cellular networks. The Dimensity 800U comes in 7nm output and incorporates an 8-core processor built from 2 powerful Cortex-A76 cores at speeds of up to 2.4GHz, and 6 Cortex-A55 cores cost-effective at frequencies of up to 2GHz, and it delivered high-level performance while using the device.

During games I did not encounter overheating of the device (playing in PUBG and CoD), where in PUBG the highest setting that can be selected is for HD resolution, without HDR support, but also in the selection of many detail settings that will appear on the screen, I did not experience Blasts during a game time of about 50 minutes. Battery life during the game was also well preserved, at a weighted rate of about 20% per hour of play on the highest settings I could choose.

The battery in the device comes with a higher capacity than that of the Pro model, in the amount of 5000mAh, but supports a “slower” charge of only 30 watts. This means that you will have to make do with a full charge in a little over an hour, instead of about 40 minutes provided by the 65 watt charge of the Pro model, but this is a battery that lasts a very long time. I could not finish a full working day with the device when the battery is completely discharged, even on days when the uses were more demanding, and on some days I was able to reach up to 2 days of use, with the average screen time throughout the trial period being about 8 screen hours.

Realme 7 5G cameras

The Realme 7 5G camera system includes 4 cameras, with a main 48-megapixel sensor with an f / 1.8 aperture key, an 8-megapixel sensor for taking 119-degree wide-angle images through an f / 2.3 aperture key and a pair of 2-megapixel cameras , For taking black-and-white and macro photos, with a selfie camera with a 16-megapixel sensor in the f / 2.1 aperture key on the front.

In daylight photography, it is possible to produce images that look good, although there is a lack of detail in certain objects, such as trees. The color level also felt a bit low when shooting under normal settings, but this is where the Chroma Boost option contributed a lot, which has already changed its name to AI Dazzle Color in the 7 Pro model and now appears simply as “AI”, which I complained about quite a bit In the past. I would still prefer colors that are more faithful to reality, but when these are not always accurate, the addition of color is certainly welcome. Wide angle images show an even lower level of color.

Macro shots look good, but less good than what I saw in the Pro model, with the focus not wide enough and focusing on a rather narrow part of the subject being photographed.

Night photos are not very successful, with a lot of noise in the picture and many dark areas. Beyond using the dedicated night mode in the camera app adds a bit to lighting and details.

Optical zoom support is also not available in the Realme 7 5G model, but you can use the camera app to perform digital zoom twice or 5 times through speed settings, and up to 10 times the pinch of the screen to zoom. The twice the zoom results are not spectacular, but provide the minimum goods of approaching the object without physically approaching it, but when performing a 5x zoom, the reduction in details is already very noticeable.

Selfie pictures look good on the phone screen, but show some smears on a closer look. In selecting the portrait photo mode the separation is done excellently, except for very slight misses at certain hair ends.

Bottom line – what we thought of the Realme 7 5G

For Rilmi it was important to provide a solution for those who are looking for cheap devices with support for 5th generation cellular networks, and in this part the company manages to deliver the goods, but the great confusion created with the launch of so many devices one after another, without significant changes In specifications that are more confusing, less pleasant for us.

The 120 Hz screen adds to the enjoyment of the regular use of the device and also contributes to the gaming side, but it is not an OLED screen. The battery life of the Realme 7 5G is perfect, and to this is added a fast charge that completes the package, with the performance of the new chipset from Media-Tech surprisingly good both in regular use and while playing.

The camera system is probably the company’s biggest waiver on the device in an attempt to keep the price level low, but this is not the only waiver, with the 5G model settling for a single speaker and still stuck behind with the Android 10 operating system, when we will soon start talking about Android 12.
