Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting played young opener Will Pucovski for playing a good blow on his first try against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday. The debater rode his fortune to bring his test to fifty tests on Day 1 of the third Test.
Lamenting first-runner Will Pucovski 62-run against India in Sydney, Ponting said the baton shows a ‘promising and compelling sign’ for the Test form.
“Will Pucovski’s textures were very popular today. Watching the part at Test stage for the first time is a promising sign and pretends to break after the obstacles he has encountered along the way. #AUSvIND, ”Ponting wrote on Twitter.
Pucovski led fifty on his first try as he tried to stay in the middle to expand. On the 21st of the innings, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant missed a management chance off Ashwin’s bowling and India took the opportunity to put Australia in a troubled position.
Panto’s hardship followed when he released another grip off Mohammad Siraj’s bowling, allowing Pucovski to save himself for the second time in a day. The opener continued to ride his fortune when, after a mishap with Labuschagne, he was rescued again on a bad throw from Jasprit Bumrah.
With rain and a wet field spoiling much of the game, nearly two hours were lost in the second session, too. He finally delivered a more complete delivery from editor Navdeep Saini last session to remove Pucovski (62).
At stumps, Australia recorded 166/2 in 55 overs with Labuschagne and Smith not out on 67 and 31 runs respectively.
