The Haifa District Court today (Thursday) convicted 21-year-old Shahar Rimoni, a resident of Haifa, of committing an act of rape on a ten-year-old girl, which took place last June after he broke into her parents’ apartment.
Attorneys Michael Carmel and Yael Tov El, representing the victim and her family, stated: “We think that the defendant’s decision to take responsibility is a correct and appropriate decision in the circumstances of this shocking incident. We trust the composition of the Haifa District Court to do justice in the matter of our network. ”
“Taking responsibility puts an end to the allegations made at the time, that the wrong man was caught, and that this is a person who admitted wrongdoing on his part. His removal from the public for the longest possible period will bring a drop of balm to the family at this difficult time“.
From the facts of the indictment filed last June, Rimonie arrived around 4:00 a.m. at the building where the minor lives. He noticed that the living room window of the apartment was open, and decided to break into the apartment with the intention of committing theft. At first, he was looking around the house for something to steal, and at one point he noticed a bundle of keys with car keys hanging on a hanger. So the defendant decided to steal the vehicle.
Rimonie continued to walk around the apartment as he entered the minor’s bedroom, closed the door behind him and then went to her bed and bent down next to her. He began to touch her legs, and she awoke from her sleep due to the touch. At this point he sexually assaulted her. Also, the evidence in the case also included DNA findings.
