‘Pulisic deserves to start’ – Tuchel supports Chelsea player despite recent bench run

The USMNT striker has started just once since the German coach took over at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says Christian Pulisic ‘deserves’ a start for the Blues after the American star left on the bench in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Newcastle.

Pulisic have started just one game since Tuchel took the lead at Chelsea: a 1-0 win over Barnsley in the FA Cup.

But Tuchel, whose Pulisic relationship dates back to the time of the Borussia Dortmund couple, says there is no reason to worry about the heroine’s recent lack of playing time .

What did Tuchel say?

“It was a tight decision whether it started or not,” Tuchel said. “Unfortunately we have only had three changes that make it very difficult for the players and what they could deserve.

“He deserves to start, he deserves to come in.”

Who has started ahead of Pulisic?

Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham began attacking Chelsea, with Abraham sent off with injuries to replace Olivier Giroud.

Giroud and Werner stopped for Chelsea, with the latter ending the thirst of the goal with his finish.

Kai Havertz has also started attacking recently, while Callum Hudson-Odoi has emerged as a backup in Tuchel’s system.

What has Pulisic done this season?

The U.S. men’s national team has featured 21 times in all competitions for Chelsea this season, but has only scored two goals.

Last season, Pulisic found the back of the net 11 times in 34 appearances throughout his debating campaign.

Pulisic, who dealt with injury issues earlier in the season, could return to the U.S. men’s national team for a friendly in March against Northern Ireland.
