Protest continues: Navalny’s wife was arrested during demonstrations calling for his release

The OVD, an organization that promotes democracy, announced today (Sunday) that during a protest calling for the release of the opposition leader in Russia, Alexei Navalny, the wife of opposition leader Yulia Navalny was arrested, along with 300 other protesters. This is not the first time she has been arrested, having also been arrested last week during a protest she organized against the Russian authorities.

According to the report, during the protests that are taking place today all over Russia, 3,013 demonstrators have been arrested so far after it was alleged that the demonstrations are taking place illegally. Protests resumed today after about 40,000 people demonstrated across Russia last week, in demonstrations in which more than 2,500 protesters were arrested.

The demonstrations are part of an extensive campaign calling for the release of Navalny, who was arrested on landing in Russia earlier this month after recovering from a poisoning attempt in August. As you may recall, Navalny collapsed during a flight from Russia to Germany, and it was later revealed that he had been poisoned by a special poison attached to his clothes. Navalny himself led the exposure during a phone call in which he impersonated a senior member of the FSB and caused one of the agents involved in the poisoning to describe how it was carried out.
