Projekt CD workers reportedly locked out of computers after ransomware attack

Cyberpunk 2077 developer had to push back patch release after cyber attack

Developer CD Projekt Red has reportedly been locked out of their computers for the past two weeks following the ransomware attack against the studio in early February.

The Cyberpunk 2077 developer announced yesterday that a 1.2 piece release for the title has been released pushing it back after the cyber attack. Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the reason in particular was that “most of its employees” were unable to access their workplaces from the attack.

As the hackers may have gained access to personal data of Projekt Red CD employees, the company reportedly asked employees to “freeze their accounts.” Since most employees are still working remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions, they have been asked to return their computers to the studio so they can “scan for malware or other harassment.”

In his news, CDPR also said the delay was due to the “wide spread” of the child. The update will now be released in the second half of March.

Systems inside the Projekt Red CD were “compromised” earlier this month following a ransomware attack that also saw hackers steal the source codes for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent, and ” the unpublished version of Witcher 3. “

It was reported that some of the data was sold online shortly after the attack, with the hackers first scheduling an auction with a $ 1 million start-up offer, with a minimum bid increase of $ 500,000, or the buy option immediately for $ 7 million. An undisclosed offer was made outside the auction, which was accepted by the hackers.

Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red issues issued DMCA takedowns to Twitter users in an attempt to control the distribution of stolen Gwent code.
