Prince Philip is still in hospital in Britain as a ‘warning’

LONDON – 99-year-old Prince Philip has spent a second night in a London hospital after being admitted earlier in the week as a warning due to feeling sick.

Buckingham Palace said on Wednesday that Queen Elizabeth II’s husband was admitted to King Edward VII’s private hospital on Tuesday afternoon. They said it had been a “precautionary step” on the advice of Philip’s doctor, and that the royal was expected to stay there for a few days of “watching and resting.”

His illness is not believed to be related to COVID-19. The queen and Philip received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine in early January.

Philip, who retired from public duties in 2017, rarely appears in public. His most recent public event was at an arms ceremony at Buckingham Palace in July.

While England is currently locking up a coronavirus, the duke has been staying at Windsor Castle, west London, with the queen, 94, who has performed duties such as meetings with remote dignitaries .

The royal family is planning celebrations to mark Philip’s 100th birthday on June 10, restricting lockouts.

Philip married Princess Elizabeth at the time in 1947 and is the longest royal consortium in British history. He and the queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
