Despite the difficulties and restrictions due to the corona plague, the Tel Aviv Grand Slam opened this morning (Thursday) with the first day at the Shlomo Group Hall. The focus of the day on the first day of the competition will be the fight between Gili Cohen and Geffen Primo for the single ticket to the Tokyo Olympics weighing up to 52 kg, a fight that culminates after the competition will determine which of them will be in the Olympic delegation.

Up to 48 kg:

At the lowest weight for women, Rishoni met Azerbaijani Leila Aliba earlier in the day and defeated her in captivity.

Tamar Malka lost in the iPhone to an Azeri rival already in the first round and was eliminated from the competition.

Up to 52 kg:

Gili Cohen and Geffen Primo appear for an important competition that will decide which of them will be in the Olympic delegation this summer, when on paper Primo has a tougher draw, but the 20-year-old judoka still leads in the Olympic rankings on the way to getting a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.

Primo met in the first round the British Chelsea Giles, who is considered a quality rival, and lost to her in captivity. At the same time, Gili Cohen won her first battle on the iPhone – so that everything can still be turned upside down in the struggle between Israeliness, right at the last minute.

Cohen went on to beat the Dutch in the second round with an impressive iPhone.

Up to 57 kg:

Timna Nelson Levy will try to go all the way. It opened in the second round with a win over a Turkish rival in Vazari.

Up to 60 kg:

Matan Koklaev appeared in the first round of the “Israeli Derby” against Tomer Golomb, who represents Poland due to a conflict with the Israeli Judo Association. Cockleev got two Vasari, won and advanced to the next round. In the second round, he also defeated the Turkish Salih Ildiz.

Yam Welczek, the young Adam Hazan and Noam Leiba were eliminated in their first battle.

Up to 66 kg:

Baruch Shmailov opened his competition in the second round against Brazilian Willian Lima and defeated him at Vazari.

The big surprise for the Israeli team came from Amit Bobovich, who admittedly received a tough draw when he met Azeri European champion Orhan Sparov, but managed to face him nicely, when the battle was decided in Bobovich’s favor thanks to penalties with a gold score. For the 21-year-old judoka, this is a sensation.

Ayalon in the net met a Kazakh opponent and lost on the iPhone right at the start of the day. Eyal Zonis also lost and was eliminated in his first fight in the competition. The injured Tal Flicker did not attend.
