Preview: MSI features Summit E13 Flip, Premium 2-in-1 for Professional

MSI today announced the Summit E13 Flip, its 2-in-1 laptop aimed at professionals. Traditionally a games-focused company, MSI has taken more and more steps to expand its PC line to business and professional content creation systems with its Summit, Creator, and Prestige lines. Earlier this year, we took a look at the 15-inch E15 Collection, and now the adjustable E13 Flip Summit looks to take on options like the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 .

While CES 2021 is an all-encompassing display, we worked with MSI to give you a closer look at this laptop. We held a video call to see a remote tour and find out more about the laptop, which you can watch in the video below …

Super-Slim version aimed at the main competition

No time for video? Here’s a quick recap of the E13 Flip. The Flip starts at $ 1,599, with a more expensive model available at $ 1,899. Both price points come in black and white variants, which are equal at each other at all prices.

First, the design. The body is all CNC-milled aluminum and weighs 2.9 pounds, correcting it for the XPS 13 and the Apple MacBook Air. It is also just 0.58 inches thick. The screen is a 13.4-inch IPS panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio (1,920 resolution by 1,200 pixels) in all models.

It is an extremely portable build, but its competitors are among the most popular and well-received in the market. The work of the E13 Flip has been cut out for this competition, and we need to see how it feels when we get a unit in for review.

Component Study: ‘Tiger Lake’ processing, plenty of RAM

Of course, what’s inside is so important. The processor and graphics are the same across all models; the chip in use is the Tiger Lake Core i7-1185G7, which comes with the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. There is no separate graphical update, even in the more expensive configurations.

From there, the two models are different in the rest of their parts. The base model comes with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. The $ 1,899 model offers a chunk up of each, packing 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD.

Both are supported by a good range of features like Thunderbolt 4 support (via two USB Type-C ports), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth (via Intel Lake Tiger Lake platform), white key backlighting, privacy shutters for webcam, and MSI Pen style support. Because of its size and feature set, it also deserves an Intel Evo laptop.
