BETHESDA, Md., February 2, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Marriott International, Inc. announced. (NASDAQ: MAR) is today the president and the CEO Arne Sorenson it reduces its schedule for some time to find more intensive treatment for pancreatic cancer. In May 2019, the company announced that Mr. Sorenson, 62, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was beginning treatment.
Mr. Sorenson, who will remain president and CEO of Marriott, is expected to step down from full-time oversight of the company for several months. During this time, he will remain involved in leading the company to the practical level and will remain a member of the board of directors. In consultation with Marriott’s board, Mr. Sorenson has tapped on two senior Marriott executives to share the responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day activity of Marriott’s business units and current corporate activities, as well as maintaining their current responsibilities.
Stephanie LinnartzThe Group President, Emerging Customer, Technology and Business, oversees the company’s international lodging division, as well as Law, Human Resources and Communications & Public Affairs. Tony Capuano, Group President, Global Development, Planning and Operational Services, oversees the US and Canada accommodation and Finance department. Ms Linnartz, 52, and Mr Capuano, 55, are long-serving members of Marriott’s leadership team, having joined the company in 1997 and 1995, respectively.
