The two brothers were part of a convoy of cars that left the town of Lod under police protection in an attempt to separate two families of war crimes.

The shooting happened on Highway 6 and is believed to be in revenge for a murder that took place in the city center a few hours earlier.

The two men and their relatives, members of the Bedouin clan Abu Saluk, were evicted from the city by a police guard to prevent further killings in retaliation for the murder of 60-year-old Yousef Azberga. found dead in the wee hours of the morning.

According to some reports, the police cars guarding the convoy were towed by a decoy vehicle that approached them, driving at high speed. Two of the three police cars left the convoy in pursuit of the vehicle, heading back towards Lod.

At that time, a different car approached the convoy with unidentified attackers inside it, shooting multiple sightings at the two brothers from the Abu Saluk family, killing one and seriously injuring another. .

An ambulance ran the two victims to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva where a man was pronounced dead on arrival.

Avichai Hadad, deputy director of the Magen branch of David Adom Yarkon, said paramedics who arrived at the scene found the unconscious men in a car that ran off the road. “We gave them life-saving treatment and they were quickly transferred to the hospital in an emergency.”

At the same time, riots broke out in Lod, with residents throwing stones and throwing cars outside a federal police station. In a police effort to arrest a suspect in the violent attack, one officer was injured.

Violence in the Arab region has been on the rise in recent months, with more than 100 people killed since the beginning of 2020.
