The police have been investigating the disappearance of Galit Tzarfati, 44, a resident of Moshav Kochav Michael in the south, and her 5-year-old son, for about two weeks, and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the boy.
The mother and her son went underground following a custody dispute, which has been going on for a long time in various courts, until the Kiryat Gat Family Court ruled that the child be transferred to his father’s custody, due to the mother’s danger. The mother appealed to the district court and it sided with Dad, and so did the Supreme Court. The police came into the picture to implement the decision.
Family Court Judge Galit Cohen wrote in her decision: “A clear picture emerges centered on a soft-spoken child, who is doomed to experience his early childhood years in the shadow of a conflict between his parents, for which, unfortunately, his mother is responsible. The court has given her many opportunities to change her patterns of thinking and acting and to seek emotional-mental therapy in order to deal with her anxieties and her subjective perception of reality, but she did not. Unfortunately, it is evident that the mother’s thoughts are locked. She is captive to the concept that the father sexually abuses the minor, and nothing will change that but appropriate treatment procedures. “
“The mother points the finger of blame everywhere – to the police, social workers and the welfare department in general, to experts on behalf of the court and the court itself without any ability to accept the more probable, objective and subjective possibility that the father does not sexually harm the minor,” it said.
The mother appropriates the minor and has difficulty creating a separation between herself and him, while not being aware of his emotional needs and unable to distill them from her needs, fears and beliefs; “He is harmed by this and, for example, the reports received from the kindergarten he visits, and his emotional, mental and developmental needs are not met.”
The police have been conducting an investigation for about two weeks under a restraining order, which concerns the locating of the child. Many dozens of police officers are looking for the mother and child. Police estimate that they are in the Kochav Michael area.
