Gerwyn Price came through a tough competition with Welshman Jamie Lewis, to start his quest for the World Cup maiden title with a 3-2 victory in the second round.

Price has enjoyed the year of his darting life, with more titles than anyone else over the truncated season, but he made no secret that the Sid Waddell Award is the one to he wants and is still on the way after getting a barrage of big finishes getting the job done.

Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright had already recorded a 3-1 win to start the tournament but any 1st contestant Price had to come from behind and come through a final set decision on his way to 32 last.

“It’s completely different without the crowd, I know they get on my back a lot, but it gives me that energy and makes me go,” Price later said.

“Sometimes, when you can’t get going you need that crowd behind you to try and push you forward a bit and it didn’t happen tonight.

“I’ve watched most of the games on my phone or TV. At a couple of the other competitions you will hear the music in the background a little more… It turns up a bit !!!
