Gerwyn Price reached his final round of the World Darts Championship with a 6-4 victory over Stephen Bunting

Gerwyn Price will take on Gary Anderson in the World Darts Championship final on Sunday night after the pair came through semi-finals at Alexandra Palace.

Just over two years on from the blast of their Grand Slam of Darts finals, the pair will be waking up in north London to win the Sid Waddell Cup right and the first prize of Raise £ 500,000.

Also on the line for Price is world No. 1 status, if he is claiming the title, after battling back from 3-1 and 4-3 down to beat Stephen Bunting 6-4 in a contest that broke down and saw the pair share a 13-figure three-point finish.

As Price progressed to his first World Cup final, the 2015 and 2016 champions Anderson reached fifth after a 6-3 victory over Dave Chisnall who was unable to reach the heights of his incredible win over Michael van Gerwen Friday night.

In a year that has seen Price win more titles than anyone else, he can add the biggest title of them all, but a resurgent Anderson will be determined to make history for himself and become the first Scot. who wants three titles and the ninth to become a three-time world champion.

Price had promised to be better than in the semi-finals of his World Cup last year, and he was as good as his word at defeating Bunting in a thrush that was so successful.

‘The Iceman’ averaged 89 in a 6-3 loss to last champion Peter Wright 12 months ago, but he put on a classy display and showed his fighting qualities in an incredible competition over two hours interesting.

Price shot in eight 100+ finishes to set an individual record at the tournament, defeating seven Phil Taylor and, fittingly, shooting in one in each of the two sets about finally to end Bunting’s hopes of becoming the fourth player to win both the PDC and BDO world titles.

Price got the best of a high-class opening set, going 120 and 117 finishes in 15-dart legs from Bunting to 105 himself on average with a 109 finish on the top level.

The Welshman had lost the first set of last year’s semi-finals but was looking to do two sets well this time as 140 finished a blistering finish of the second. However, when he was near a double top, the Iceman saw Bunting take out 82 to kick back a start he had seen at game level.

Surprisingly, the fifth 100+ result in 11 legs gave Price the early campaign. But Bunting finished the 116 to continue with his own impressive finishing stats, clearing 81 on the bullseye and then taking out 76 for a 12-dart leg that sealed the third set and lead 2 -1.

The pair traded two more big finishes – 136 from Bunting and 131 from Price – to make seven big finishes from 14 feet played. The big checks slid down, but it was ‘The Bullet’ that kept its zero for a two-set lead when it took out the next two legs.

After averaging 101 in losing the fourth set, Price showed all the qualities that led him to eight titles this year – more than anyone else – to make his way to the fifth set with an average of 93 as Bunting’s doubles began to drop him.

“To be against him and Stephen taking everything out in that game, this is the best thing I’ve ever played in this tournament and I needed it.

He punished me when I slipped up. I was 3-1 down and kicking myself, I was 4-3 down and kicking myself, but I dug in there.

But Price came back, getting an average of 113 for the eighth set and level contest – crushing double 10 for the 10th time from 10 attempts for 4-4.

With the best game of 11 effectively now a three-set favorite game, Price ran to the finish line, winning six of the final seven legs to move into his Ally Pally final. .

Two more three-figure finishes helped him set the new World Cup record, 112 on his way to a 5-4 lead and 103 on his way to the 10th set of a stunning game.

Anderson too good for Chisnall

Anderson has proven to be the nemesis of the Chisall World Championships more than once. For the third time on the Ally Pally stage, the Scot completed the English campaign.

Two-time champion Anderson had won the semi-finals between the two in 2017 and 2019 and was set to run out victorious again as ‘Chizzy’ came soon in his quest for his first major television title, despite sharing 26 180s.

With Anderson claiming a 124 finish during the first set, and the pair looking like Bunting and Price splitting 13 checks, Chisnall entered the party in the opening leg of the second, reeling in the highest possible end when he hit a bullseye for 170 inspections.

Despite losing six darts for the set, Chizzy held back Anderson from 2-0 down to win the deciding leg of the second set and the game was all square.

But Anderson was a man of control and the champion has a strong record twice in semi-finals, having won four of his previous five tournaments at this stage of the event, and took control. with a classy 11-dart leg on a 2-1 lead.

‘The Flying Scotsman’ continued to infiltrate his authority, keeping errant Chisnall at bay throughout the fourth set as he moved halfway to the required target of six sets.

Chizzy may have struggled with his doubles but the bullseye proved to be his friend. A classy finish of 124 helped him narrow down the deficit as he claimed the fifth set and when Anderson lost a stint at double 11 for the sixth Chisnall had a chance to balance the game.

However, with 84 missing, he not only managed to rule a shot at double, he halted his score and Anderson made up for the two-set win. As it was throughout, Chisnall continued to fight and created a two-legged lead in the seventh set only to take Anderson out 116. But Chisnall grabbed a double top to stay alongside his side. -in a lively pace.

However, that was as good as it got for the eighth seed as Anderson won the final six legs exploding over the finish line – a pair of 13-dart legs in the final set putting a class stamp on his victory and another World Cup final.
