Pauchi after Trump leaves: “Feeling a sense of liberation”

Anthony Pauchi, the chief epidemiologist in the U.S., admitted that he felt a “sense of liberation” after the end of the Trump era and felt he could talk freely about scientific data on the Corona without fear of “counter-reactions” from the outgoing president.

Pauchi, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is experiencing a problematic and well-publicized relationship with the outgoing president. But now he has been invited to continue working with the new president Joe Biden, who has already managed to present a national strategy for the war in Corona.

“One of the things we are going to do is maintain full transparency, and be open and honest,” Pucci told reporters. “If things go wrong, we will not point out the culprits but correct the situation. We will make sure everything we do is based on science and evidence. “I had a quarter of an hour with the president, and he said that many times.”

Pauchi’s disagreement with Trump came to light during the October election campaign, when Trump told members of his campaign team: “Pauchi is a disaster. If I had listened to him, we would have had 500,000 dead already.” At an election rally held by Trump a few weeks later, the crowd shouted “fire Pauchi,” and Trump said he might do so.

On Thursday, the day after Biden entered the White House, Pucci was asked how he feels now that Trump is gone. “I do not want to go back in time, but it is quite clear that things were said for example regarding disinfectant and such things, which were inconvenient because they were not based on scientific facts,” he said. Trump at one point recommended using a disinfectant as a remedy for corona.

“I did not enjoy being in a position that contradicts the president at all … Knowing that I can come here and talk about what I know, about the evidence, about science, and let science talk is a liberating feeling.” Concluded.
