The Arsenal player has retired from international football in difficult circumstances, citing the former president as the main reason for his decision.
The German Football Association (DFB) has contacted Mesut Ozil to arrange a meeting and to negotiate with the Arsenal player.
The international career of the 2014 World Cup winner came to an end in difficult situations after Germany withdrew early from the following tournament in 2018.
Ozil announced his international stance on Twitter, citing perceived discrimination following a controversial photo by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“The treatment I received from the DFB and many others means I don’t want to wear a German national team shirt,” Ozil said at the time. “I feel unwanted and I think my achievements from my first international tour in 2009 have been forgotten.”
Five-time German Player of the Year Ozil named former DFB president Reinhard Grindel, accusing him of racism. He said: “I will no longer stand up for being a scapegoat for his incompetence and ability to do his job right.”
Now Grindel’s agent, Fritz Keller, has reached out to Ozil to repair the relationship between Ozil and the DFB.
“We have been told that our president has contacted Mesut,” said DFB director Oliver Bierhoff. Bild. “If a meeting comes out and everyone sits at the table, we’d be happy. I was in contact with Mesut on his birthday via WhatsApp and he responded nicely. ”
The Bild a report added that the message from Keller was made after Germany drew 3-3 with Turkey in international relations on 7 October.
OO Ozil recently commented on Keller’s approach in a Q&A on Twitter, saying he appreciated the move.
“Of course I had many wonderful memories playing with the national team – we won the World Cup in Brazil and we were part of a great time for German football,” wrote Ozil. “I would never say I regret playing for Germany. A lot has been said about how it came to be, and I do not regret that decision.
“In life you move on, and I am grateful to have recently received such a nice personal letter from DFB President Fritz Keller, who dealt with all the issues that happened at the time. ”
In total, Ozil played 92 times for Germany, scoring 23 goals in a nine-year international career.
