This story is part of it CES, where our editors bring the latest news and hottest tools of the CES 2021 in full meaning.
CES being all digital is certainly weird, but the luxury is luxurious and wacky results shown on Day 1 they brought with them a sense of experience. Day 2 continued that trend, although things here feel much more futuristic. Literally, a flying car was one of the main concepts of the day.
Although Day 2 has come to an end, the show is not over yet. In addition to Microsoft’s keynote speech on Wednesday and a steady stream of new product announcements from companies around the world, Thursday will bring Samsung’s Unpacked Galaxy Event, where the Galaxy S21 is expected to be published.
Let’s get to a concept
Brooklyn Project.
Razer
Razer has a long tradition of showcasing conceptual tools at CES, and has become one of the show’s beststers each year. In 2021, Razer has two such concepts: Project Brooklyn and Project Hazel.
First up is the Brooklyn Project, a a game city with a portable, folding display. The display is good too: 180-degree OLED, transparent. In addition to that state-of-the-art technology, the Brooklyn Project has carbon-fiber and leather bucket sets with haptic shading and RBG lighting. Obviously.
Hazel of the project.
Razer
It is the second Hazel Project, a concept for live COVID-19. The N95 mask is packed with technology: Audio-processing pods that eliminate voice, active ventilation and self-sterilization, a companion case that doubles as a UV sterilizer. And RBG LED lights.
Obviously.
So, both are interesting. But Razer’s CES concepts don’t usually lead to real results, so don’t expect either. That said, there is an Acer-like (though less slippery) seat in the Thronos. UK company Binatone also unveiled its own tech-jammed mask at CES, N95 mask with Bluetooth headset. It’s not as flexible as Razer, but it’s real and costs $ 50 – far less than Razer would cost.
GM brings us closer to The Jetsons
On Monday, Samsung unveiled a set of robots designed to help surround the house, a child’s step toward survival like The Jetsons. General Motors is helping us take a big leap, showing his concept for a flying car. It’s called the eVTOL, or (electronic) Verticle TakeOff and Landing droid.
“We are preparing for a world where advances in electrical and autonomous technology are making personal air travel possible,” said GM design chief Michael Simcoe. GM is now joining such Archer and Aston Martin, companies that also work on flying vehicles.
Chip wars
AMD
Day 1 of CES featured a lot of TV competition between Samsung and LG, the two big electronic giants in Korea. Day 2 was a battleground for processors, with Nvidia and AMD each retaining the main ones themselves.
Nvidia, the graphics management card champion, in several new RTX GPUs. Ultimately there was the RTX 3080, for those who really care about their game (like, e-sports), which starts at $ 1,999. But while that offers great power for 4K games and intensive video editing, the GPU at the lower end of the spectrum is just as important. The RTX 3060 costs just $ 329, and Nvidia says it’s 10 times more powerful than the GTX 1060. In other words, you’ll be able to play most new games on it, though you may have to slide the mission down.
While AMD makes GPUs, its main mention Tuesday was more about laptop CPUs. It was called Ryzen 5000 chips are coming to laptops, with brands like Lenovo, Asus and HP promising laptops powered by Ryzen 5000 later this year. AMD claims that this will mean thinner, lighter and more powerful laptops. These CPUs will compete with Intel’s 11-gen Tiger Lake H35 chips, it was announced Tuesday.
Oh, and just for fun, Samsung unveiled the Exynos 2100 chip that will empower the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S21. The phone will receive a full publication on Thursday, but hey, it’s Chip Day so why not show some early merchandise?
Laptops are mono-screen passe
Asus Zephyrus Duo 15 SE
Asus
The chips are cool, but what about the right ingredients in them?
Just as phone makers are trying to get ahead of the curve with rolling, folding displays, laptop makers are trying to differentiate them with useful new designs. Thinner, lighter and more powerful are good, but real innovation in such a mature industry is good.
For Asus, that means doubling down on its powerful screen Duo line. At CES he appeared the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, which has a 15.6-inch display with a 14.1-inch secondary touchscreen that stays above the keyboard, as you can see above. It’s a beast, aimed at gamers with a performance obsess: Can be configured with a 120Hz 4K panel, with options for either AMD or Nvidia graphics.
The e-ink display at the back of Lenovo’s ThinkBook.
Lenovo
The company also released their new Strix Scar gaming laptop, adjustable with 360Hz display – fastest on any laptop.
But while Asus is investing in brute force, Lenovo’s Chinese brand is going for efficiency. In addition to the primary display, my new Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 2 has an E-ink screen on the top so you can view messages, your calendar, take notes and more without having to worry. the device will indeed open. It can also be cut through the Lenovo cost mat, so that’s one less cable to cross.
Wise lipstick, softer fragrance
Perso Yves Saint Laurent
L’Oréal
The internet of things industry is going to grow by the hundreds of millions of dollars every year. That means in everyday use more stuff to be filled with computing devices. One new example from CES? Lipstick.
Shown at last year’s CES and unveiled as a real product you can buy Tuesday (coming Spring, costing $ 299), Perso Yves Saint Laurent is a device containing three liquid lipstick curtains. With the help of a built-in brush, you can mix the colors together to get the exact color and shade you’ve got.
NINU
It’s a story like Ninu, a smart perfumer. Inside are three scents, in three different filters. Ninu connects to your phone and, through an app, you can mix scents together, customizing it to your taste. Obviously, this could go a long way, so the app has an AI assistant to help you avoid smelling like junk.
The future, eh?
