Oscar Valdez snatched the WBC pre-featherweight title from Miguel Berchelt after a stunning victory over his rival in Las Vegas.

Valdez unveiled a big left hook to propel Berchelt to the canvas in the 10th round as the 30-year-old unbeaten became a two-pronged world champion in explosive style.

Berchelt was badly injured and knocked out in the fourth, but fought back strongly in the midfields before Valdez put him back in the ninth and then added a stunning finishing punch.

“There’s nothing better in my life than proving people wrong,” Valdez said.

“I have a list of people who doubted me. My eagles doubted me. Boxing analysts doubted me. They said Berchelt was going to put me off.

“I have a message for everyone: ‘Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do.’

“I want to take this belt home, and I’m happy for that.

“Any hero out there, I heard Shakur Stevenson want to fight. Let’s do it. I just want to keep fighting and give the fans what they want.”
