A big blow to Ajax. UEFA announced today (Friday) that it is imposing a 12-month suspension on the Dutch league’s Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana, for taking banned substances. The team will have the opportunity to appeal to the Sports Supreme Court to try to change the evil of the ruling.
Onana took the performance-enhancing substance called Formside on October 30th. According to Ajax officials, this was done after the Cameroonian did not feel well and used his wife’s medicine. The club claims he took the material in good faith. The UEFA Disciplinary Committee noted that the player had no intention of cheating, but violating the doping rules does not release the athlete from punishment even if he did not know what he was taking.
Ajax technical director Edwin van der Sar responded: “We as a club condemn any use of stimulants and advocate clean sports. Andre is a great goalkeeper who has proven himself and is loved by the fans. We hoped he would receive a reduced penalty, as he had no intentions of improving performance as a result. Taking the substance. ”
The disciplinary body of the European football association, UEFA, has imposed a suspension of 12 months on Andre Onana for a doping violation.
