Now it’s also official, Mauricio Pochettino is the new coach of the French champions, Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine coach, who has not coached since November 2019, will replace Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked early last week.
As mentioned, Pochettino was fired from Tottenham in November 2019, and since then his name has been mentioned as a candidate with quite a few clubs. PSG chose him because of his great achievements with the Roosters and perhaps also because he played for the club between 2001 and 2003. The official announcement did not mention the length of the contract, but according to the French media, the Argentine coach apparently signed for two and a half years from today.
Tuchel was sacked at the end of a 0-4 win over Strasbourg, with his team just a point away from leading Lille, and after securing promotion to the last 16 of the Champions League from first place at Kashan that included Manchester United and RB Leipzig. At the end of two and a half years in the City of Lights, the German coach managed to register two championships, a trophy, a League Cup and a Champions League runner-up.
Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as head coach. The Argentine trainer signed a contract until June 30, 2022, plus one more year.
