‘Of course Bayern are in Upamecano talks’ – Kahn speaks up Leipzig’s midfield

The future president of the Bavarian club has confirmed their interest in the Frenchman but has raised claims that they are after another big name

It would be difficult for Bayern Munich not to take an interest in RB defender Leipzig Dayot Upamecano, director Oliver Kahn has said.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has previously announced that the club want to sign the young Frenchman, while Leipzig has confirmed that he has a € 42.5 million (£ 38m / $ 52m) release clause in his contract.

Kahn, who will become Bayern’s president in 2022, has doubled down because the club is negotiating with the midfielder, as they have to sign him in that area.

“We are missing David Alaba,” Kahn admitted.

“We made an offer to him some time ago. He did not accept this offer.

“I also understand that a similar player, who has been at Bayern Munich for a long time, is looking for a new challenge now.

“We need to think about who might be the right place for David.

“As a player, I’d like to have played with Ramos, but there’s nothing in it [him coming to Bayern]. ”

Focusing specifically on Upamecano, Kahn said: “It is in high demand across Europe.

“This season, he has shown how good he is. Of course, we are also in conversations.

“He is a player wanted by many of the biggest clubs in Europe and Bayern is the most successful club in the world in terms of sport.

“We are particularly attractive to these players at the moment.”

With Jerome Boateng ‘s future also uncertain, the heart of Bayern’ s defense could change dramatically over the summer.

Meanwhile, Champions League keepers are gaining the upper hand at home, in Germany, where they maintain a healthy seven-point advantage over Lepazig’s side Upamecano in the race for the Bundesliga title .

FCB have won their last four games and have conceded a remarkable 57 goals in their 19 games.

Their next round comes Friday, when they face Hertha away from home.

After that, however, they travel to controversy over the FIFA Club World Cup, to be held in Doha.

They will play the winners of the Al-Duhail home class with Al Ahly on February 8th.
