Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem & Co. Arriving in Australia ATP visit

The world’s top tennis players have started reaching Down Under for a different summer swing in Australia redesigned with the COVID-19 pandemic. Such World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, No. 2 Rafael Nadal and No. 3 Dominic Thiem prepare for a shortened ATP Cup, new tournaments and rebounds in Melbourne and the Australian Open pushed back to February from his traditional mid-January start.

Djokovic, who last year dominated the swing by taking Serbia to victory in the ATP Cup and capturing Australia’s eighth Open title, wore his ATP Cup jacket.

To help players travel through the pandemic, Tennis Australia has booked 15 flights to take players in from the first ATP Tour stops in Antalya and Delray Beach (Miami), as well as from travel destinations including Dubai and Los Angeles. Some players travel from Doha, where the Australian Open men’s qualifying event took place. Adhering to health and safety protocols in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, players will apply for 14 days of hotel quarantine upon arrival before competing.

There will be plenty of action as players include Djokovic, Nadal, Thiem, Matteo Berrettini and more ready to qualify for their country February 1-5 at the ATP Cup in Melbourne. Serbia are the defending champion after winning the first edition by defeating Spain in the final.

In the same week, Melbourne will also be hosting two ATP 250 events, which run January 31 – February 6. David Goffin and Karen Khachanov will lead the Open River Open (Melbourne 1), while Stan Wawrinka and Nick Kyrgios will be home favorites at the Great Ocean Road Open (Melbourne 2). #NextGenATP stars include Jannik Sinner (Melbourne 1) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (Melbourne 2) in action.

The men’s Australian summer swing will culminate in the Australian Open, which takes place from 8-21 February. Fans will be allowed to attend in a restricted role. Djokovic is the defending champion after defeating Thiem in five sets last year to claim his eighth Melbourne crown.
