‘No reason for RB Leipzig to be anxious’ – Nagelsmann has no interest in taking over as Dortmund coach

The 33-year-old has denied any chance of changing his current job for the man at Signal Iduna Park

Julian Nagelsmann has no plans to replace RB Leipzig for Borussia Dortmund despite being recommended as a permanent fan for Lucien Favre.

Leipzig boss Nagelsmann is regarded as one of the most promising coaches in European football and led his team to Champions League semi-finals last season.

The 33-year-old, who has a contract at the Red Bull Arena until 2023, was visited as a candidate to take over Dortmund next season, with Edin Terzic replacing Favre in the meantime in December.

However, former Hoffenheim coach Nagelsmann wants no one associated with Leipzig to worry about what’s on the horizon as he plans to stay put.

“There is no reason to be tense about Dortmund,” Nagelsmann told reporters ahead of a Bundesliga meeting with the BVB on Saturday.

“The situation with Dortmund has remained the same during my time as Hoffenheim coach. There were and are no matches.

“I am comfortable and have big targets to achieve with Leipzig. As I said, no one at RB Leipzig has any reason to be worried about Dortmund.”

Leipzig is second in the Bundesliga record, six points ahead of fourth-placed Dortmund, and two adrift of Bayern Munich leaders after 14 games.

Asked about Nagelsmann at Thursday ‘s pre – match press conference, BVB sports director Michael Zorc said: “Despite age, Julian has had a remarkable management role. With Hoffenheim, he was able to very emotional work, now he’s getting just as emotional a season with Leipzig.

“I believe, there is no doubt that he is a complete football expert. He always puts innovation into his coaching style. He is always able to bring on his team. work well.

“We have to try to fight that on Saturday. We’ve already come up against each other a few times and it’s not like we didn’t have any success at all in those games.

“I see ourselves, also because of the position in the table, in the role of the hunter. We want to reduce the gap between us and the top of the table.”
