Undoubtedly one of the biggest game success stories of 2020, especially in the case of Nintendo, is ruling the world non-stop on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Just since its successful launch to the present day, the game has been breaking sales records and winning over the hearts of players with no signs of slowing down.
So how does Nintendo plan on sustaining this trend? We’ve seen a lot of important content updates over the last few months as new features are added and seasonal changes come and go, so will those updates continue?
In an interview with Polygon, American Nintendo president Doug Bowser was asked about the future of the game. Two possible ideas were raised – a New Leaf-style approach where the same annual record is repeated before a larger update, or a Pocket Camp approach where the game will be -residential growing. Here is what he had to say in response:
“Yeah, I see two possible paths here, one that you already mentioned, which has been our update list coming from the developers. And that can be around seasons, it can be around events, it can be around improved play features.and that we will continue as we go along.
“I think there’s something very special and different about it Crossing animals: New Horizons, however, the [user-generated content], and people ‘s ability to lead to user – generated content and make it accessible and share that with their friends. And that doesn’t happen at all. That is an ever-changing and ever-changing environment where people can visit each other’s islands and take advantage of that UGC, bring it to their islands and share it. So I think that’s another aspect that really strengthens the connection over time with Animal Crossing. “
Following on from this response, Bowser clarifies that Nintendo is “definitely seeing” the kind of updates the game received during its first year of running.
So in case you have any fear that New Horizons will slow down, it looks like the usual seasonal updates and new additions will find their way into the game. for quite some time yet. With the game fast approaching for the title of the best – selling Switch game ever, it ‘s good – and perhaps expected – to see the development team continue to support, even though they rely a little on players keeping the game alive by sharing their experiences.
