It was reported earlier this year that Google is working on a new Hub with the company’s Soli radar technology launched with the Pixel 4 in 2019. A new report now shares more details about it. this, and also the design of Nest Hub.
Google plans to keep the same design for the upcoming Nest Hub with a screen attached to an oblong, cloth – covered base, according to 9to5Google. The only change we see in the color mix is the inclusion of gray, black and sand / pink, the report said. There is also a light blue color option planned for the Nest Hub which is likely to be similar to Nest Audio’s ‘Sky’ color.
WHICH CAN: Google Nest Audio Review
While the design will not change, there will be improvements under the hood of the Nest Hub. There will be better audio quality, as well as three long microphones. Most interestingly, however, is the presence of Soli radar for gesture controls on the new Nest Hub. This technology is said to be used for sleep detection, and is integrated with the Google Fit app.
The functionality is amazing and amazes you what exactly it works. On the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, air gestures are used to play / stop, and swipe to make scratches / jumps. Air gestures can also be used to trigger alerts, and silent calls on the Pixel 4 phones. The Nest Hub was the third device to use Soli radar after the Therostat Nest. Here, it detects when the user is nearby and wakes up the screen. It is interesting to see how it works on the Nest Hub.
Word of a Nest Hub release has not been announced yet but it is expected to be available soon. Google is also said to be pricing it around the same as the standard Nest Hub smart display.
