New find in Pompeii: A 2,000-year-old food stall has revealed a shocking abuse case

At the Pompeii Antiquities Site in Italy, buried in a volcanic eruption in 79 AD, local archaeologists uncovered a reserved stall selling street food, adorned with impressive murals, containing remnants of food left over from the day the volcano erupted and destroyed the famous city in 79 AD. But with the many colors and joy on the snack bar, homophobic graffiti was also found. View the documentation of the new archaeological find:

Tourists who stole objects from the antiquities site began to experience tragedies in their lives and claimed it was a “Pompeii curse” | Come on in, take a look and enjoy yourself!

The Thermopolyum, the Roman version of fast food stalls on the street, was discovered last year in the V excavation area, opposite the Gladiators Inn, and part of it was shown to the media. In recent months, despite the closure, work on the site has continued and over the weekend the store was fully unveiled. On the outer parts of the winding stand appear frescoes (murals), which among other things show the figure of the sea nymph, we will ride, ride a sea horse, in addition to a painting of a rooster and ducks for cooking.

Another painting shows a dog tied to a leash and next to it left graffiti marks of a curse, apparently against one of the workers at the ancient stand. According to a report on the Telegraph website, the defamation is attributed to a freed Greek slave named Nico, and it reads: “NICIA CINAEDE CACATOR”. According to archaeologists, the curse is a homosexual negative connotation derived from the ancient curse “catamites”, as adolescent boys were held by older men to sexually satisfy them – that is, a synonym for pedophile today.

Most of the time, the catamites were slave boys and the social hierarchy meant that they had no escape from the abuse. Previous records show that even one Roman emperor, Nero, fell so in love with one of his servants that he turned him into his pimp and separated him from his wife. Also, urns for storage were discovered at the site, with one containing wine, and the other with the remains of a mouse, which apparently penetrated to eat seeds. Archaeologists estimate that the additional urns at the site contained a combined dish of pork and fish and another soup or stew of snails, fish and lamb, however they are continuing tests to determine this definitively. Partial remains of two people were also discovered.

“Apart from the extra glimpse it provides into everyday life in Pompeii, the possibilities for research in this thermopoly are exceptional. For the first time such an area is fully exposed, and it is possible to perform all the surgeries that today’s technology allows,” said the outgoing director of the archeological park, Massimo Osana. Because it will be possible to allow visits to Pompeii as early as next spring.
