SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (CBS) – Where to find happiness in 2021? According to a new ranking, the answer for New Englanders is to go north.
South Burlington, Vermont finished sixth on WalletHub’s status as “2021 of the happiest cities in America.” Burlington’s neighbor was not far behind at 15th.

Other New England industrialists on the list include Portland at 23, Nashua at 50 and Boston at 61. Boston has one of the lowest suicide rates of any of the listed cities, according to WalletHub.
South Burlington, which has a population of just under 20,000 people and is home to Ben & Jerry ‘s head office, scored particularly well in the “highest level of sleep” and the highest level of sports participation. Burlington was No. 1 for minimum hours.

The rankings took into account emotional and physical wellbeing, income and employment; and community and environment.
Fremont, California was named the happiest city, followed by Bismark and Fargo in North Dakota; Madison, Wisconsin; and San Jose, California.
