NB reports on new COVID-19 cases; four cases subtracted from a confirmed total case

HALIFAX – New Brunswick does not report new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with the region’s total number of active cases falling to 45.

On Sunday, the province revealed that two previously reported cases in Zone 2 (St. John’s district) had been reported in another area. For reasons of confidentiality, the province in which the cases were previously recorded cannot be identified.

In addition, two people previously identified as cases, one in Zone 1 (Moncton area) and one in Zone 6 (Bathurst area), were excluded from the confirmed cases of COVID-19 as a result of identifying false-positive results. A COVID-19 lab is currently working to find out what caused these faults.

When Public Health evaluates the results of its tests, they consider the epidemiological links and case information to determine whether these appear to be positive. The province states that in some rare cases, such as this one, the results did not adhere to patient information or COVID-19 activity in the area, so the samples were retested. The people involved are informed about their negative results.

The updated number of cases will be displayed in the New Brunswick COVID-19 dashboard, an online tool that allows New Brunswickers to view data related to the pandemic, such as the number of coronavirus tests performed , the number of active cases and the number of hospitals
