NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover is set to deliver a four-pound helicopter from the womb next month. The first powered flight over Martian fields is expected to rise.

“Ingenuity test flights are not expected to begin earlier than the first week of April,” NASA officials wrote in a mission update. “The exact timing of the first flight will still be mobile as engineers work out the timeline details for the use and positioning of the Stability and Ingenuity vehicles,” said NASA of their helicopter unit. has chosen a location for the flights.
Innovation, a $ 85 million rotorcraft, could pave the way for a new approach to discovering another world. The drone flies up to five test flights in the spring, even though it’s currently just a technical demonstration.

Perseverance, which landed inside the 28-mile-wide (45-kilometer) Jezero Crater at Red Planet on Feb. 18, has also removed Ingenuity within it. Perseverance would use Innovation on the red dirt and travel about 330 feet (100 meters) away until it landed at the chosen airfield.
According to mission team members, the six-wheeled rover would attempt to record the small chopper’s flights using its Mastcam-Z video array and two microphones.

Ingenuity is a research exhibition that focuses on the path for future aerial exploration of Mars. Space.com claims that the helicopter has a high-resolution camera but no scientific instruments. NASA officials have said that, if Ingenuity flights are successful, potential helicopters could become helicopters that will be scouts for rovers and / or collect data on their own.
“It will actually be a Wright Brothers moment, but on another planet,” said MiMi Aung, project manager for a helicopter crew, according to Business Insider. “Every step that goes forward first will be of sorts.”
Perseverance will continue to work diligently on its main goal after supporting the innovation of getting off the ground. The rover finds evidence of prehistoric life on Mars and collects hundreds of specimens, which will be returned to Earth through a NASA-European Space Agency exploration mission as early as 2031.
NASA to Preview Mars First Helicopter Flight
