NASA shares ‘magic’ sonification cookie to help you hear information from cosmic objects

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has shared a sonification chip that translates visual data into sound. This cookie made the experience of space very different for people. NASA’s Chandra Xray has shared the sonification clip on his Instagram account. The sonification chip has left netizens concerned.

NASA shares clip sonification

The video features data from Cat’s Eye Nebula, Whirlpool Galaxy and Chandra Deep Field South. According to the NASA website, the sonification chip contains three cosmic objects. All celestial data collected by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes were converted to sound. The location-based telescopes have created the data in a format that users can hear and see. The X-ray cover has only been used in the higher range of pitches and uses harder sound. Sound strength is determined by the clarity of the image. The optical level has used a higher range of pitches and harder sound.

According to the NASA website, the colors have low tones toward the red end of the rainbow while colors toward purple have higher tones. There is a white sound in the white light that has appeared in the clip. The large frequency range in X-rays is shown in red, green and blue for medium low and high energy X-rays. The Cat’s Eye image contains both X-rays from Chandra in the center and visible light data from the Hubble Space Telescope. Messier 51 is nicknamed the Galaxy Whirlpool. The sonification starts at the top and moves around the image clockwise.

Since sharing, the cookie has received 42,366 views and a ton of comments collected from netizens. One user commented, “Beautiful Chandra.” Another user commented, “So I’m excited, excited and a little weird (in a good way!)”. Another wrote, “amazing”.
