Naomi Osaka turns the nightmare of her dream to reach the third round of the Australian Open

MELBOURNE – Naomi Osaka had a dream that she would lose her second game at the Australian Open, but the reality was a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory over Caroline Garcia on Wednesday.

Garcia was unable to build a single place of rest over the tournament as the third Japanese seed put in a rock-solid performance with 10 aces on a balmy afternoon at Rod Laver Arena.

“Going into this game I was really crazy and I had a really bad dream about it,” Osaka told reporters.

“For me, my dream tells of the future. Like, I usually have dreams and they come true. Last night I dreamed I lost this game, and I didn’t feel good about it. ”

Frenchwoman Garcia, who was once fourth in the world but now lamenting at 43rd, can be a tough opponent and her aggressive baseline game has helped her to six wins over six the top five players.

Osaka said where she was once kept to herself, she had discussed the dream with her team and that had helped her approach.

“I just thought I can’t control what she’s going to do, and I can only control what I’m going to do,” she said.

“I also think that’s why I served so well, because attending is theoretically the only thing you can control in tennis. ”

Osaka, who had a press conference at his gate with Iga Swiatek, the French Open champion for a quick conversation about flip flops, said she had a dream related to tennis.

“I usually have this dream where I hit a hand rally with someone, and I hit the back of the net. And I’m waking up, ”she said.

“It’s always so intense, as the rally is always very intense. I would say that was the most vibrant tennis dream I have ever had. ”

The U.S. Open champion, who made the final victory in the WTA tournament to Coco Gauff in the third round at Melbourne Park last year, will face Ons Jabeur.

“She’s very funny and nice and I think the game I play against her will be very difficult, but I’m looking forward to it,” she laughed.
