Nadav Lapid, winner of the Golden Bear Award for his film “Synonyms”, will return to the Berlin Festival this year – and this time as a judge. In a press release issued today (Monday) on behalf of the esteemed festival, it was stated that Lapid will be one of the six judges of the main competition, who will decide who will win the prestigious award this year.

The judging panel this year will consist of six directors who have won first prize at the festival over the years. Alongside Lapid, Iranian director Muhammad Rasuloff, who won an award last year for his film There Is No Evil; Romanian Edina Pintilia who won in 2018 for her film “Do Not Touch Me”; Hungarian Ildiko Anide who won in 2017 for her film “On Body and Soul”; Italian director Gianfranco Rossi who won in 2016 for his film “Fire on the Water”; And Wismila Zavnic from Bosnia, who won her 2006 film Garbavica.
Following the Corona plague, the festival will be held in two parts this year. At the beginning of this coming March, instead of a festival with guests and screenings, there will be a small event for industry people and a panel of judges who will choose the winning films. In addition, a summer edition is planned and open to the public this coming June, in which the public will be given the opportunity to watch the winning films and the other films selected for the program. The ceremony itself will take place in June, and later this month the films received for the festival will be announced.
This will not be the first time Torch has judged at a major festival in Europe. Last September he was elected president of the jury in one of the major side events of the Venice Film Festival, Venice Days.
