Murray Walker, the famous Formula 1 reporter, has died at the age of 97.

Highly regarded as the Voice of F1 in a motor sports reporting career that lasted 60 years until 2001, Walker was a household name worldwide.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of BRDC Partner Member Murray Walker OBE,” the British Racing Drivers Club said in a statement.

“Friend, a true motorsport legend, the nation’s favorite reporter and contagious smile.

“We thank Murray for all he has done for our community. RIP our friend.”

Martin Brundle began his documentary role alongside Walker at ITV in 1997 and said: “Rest in Peace Murray Walker.

“A remarkable man in all respects. A national treasure, a genre of communication, a myth of Formula One.”

David Croft, Brundle’s Sky Sports F1 co-reporter, tweeted: “Rest in Peace Murray Walker, a gentleman and a legend in every sense of the word.

“It was an honor to get to know you, a pleasure to spend time in your company and an inspiration to listen and learn from you. The voice will be Formula 1 and always will be. Thankyou.”
