More than 25% of deaths in January were related to coronavirus, a report says

More than a quarter of deaths in Israel during the month of January were related to coronavirus, according to data released by the Bureau of Central Statistics (CBS) on Thursday.

Out of 5,233 deaths last month, 1,459 patients were battling the disease. The total number of deaths was also 14.1% higher than the same period in 2020, which stood at 4,897. January also accounts for 26.6% of all deaths since the outbreak began, rising to 5,473 from Thursday.

Although Israel’s coronavirus death toll is 0.74%, lower than the global average, one in every 135 Israelis who died of the virus died.

Total Israeli coronavirus-related deaths per capita were also high, with 596 deaths compared to the global average of 313.2.

The CBS said the total death tax is not final, as dozens and even hundreds of people have been retroactively added due to imbalance.

January 24 saw the highest rate of coronavirus-related deaths, with 79 patients dying that day, and the January 9 lowest with 21 deaths.

The average daily COVID-19 death toll at that time was 47.

Since the beginning of February, 648 people have died as a result of COVID-19 complications, putting the daily average at 38.

The Ministry of Health said Thursday morning that 4,076 new coronavirus cases have been diagnosed in the past 24 hours.

The death toll since the onset of the pandemic was 5,486.

Out of 52,756 patients battling the disease, 928 were in poor condition, with 296 attached to ventilators. Reportedly, 76.2% of all new adverse patients on Wednesday were under the age of 39.

Overall, 88% of Israelis over 60 received at least their first dose of vaccine.
